Contentful has three platform plans: Free ($0), Lite ($300 a month) and Enterprise (custom pricing). Free and Lite suit learning, prototypes and single small sites. Almost every organisation running Contentful at scale ends up on Enterprise, because that is where you get unlimited API calls, single sign-on, uptime SLAs, more than one Space as standard, and access to Contentful Personalization, Studio and AI Actions. Those three products are priced as add-ons on top of an Enterprise plan.
This guide sets out what each plan includes, the costs that catch teams out, what shapes an Enterprise quote, and what Salesforce’s acquisition of Contentful means for your budget. Prices are in US dollars, as Contentful publishes them, and were checked against Contentful’s pricing page in October 2026.

Free is a sandbox for learning Contentful and building proofs of concept. Its usage limits are hard caps, so you won’t be billed for going over them, but the site simply stops getting more capacity once you reach them.
Lite is aimed at smaller businesses running a single project or website. It adds scheduled publishing, comments and tasks, and live collaboration. There is no plan between Lite and Enterprise, so the jump to the next tier is a big one.
Enterprise is built for organisations running several brands, markets or teams. It includes custom numbers of users, roles and locales, single sign-on and advanced permissions, EU data residency options, dedicated customer success and professional services, and the governance and security features that procurement and InfoSec teams usually require.
Contentful organises content into Spaces, roughly one for each project or site, and each Space has its own limits. Every plan includes one Starter Space, with 25 content types, two environments and 10,000 records. That is enough for a simple site, but a well-modelled enterprise website can outgrow it quickly.
On the Lite plan you can add a Lite Space for $850 a month on top of the $300 plan. It raises the limits to 50 content types, four environments and 50,000 records, adds up to five workflows, and brings an extra 2 million API calls and 750 GB of bandwidth a month. This is why some pricing sites quote $850 as Contentful’s price: it is the add-on, not the plan. A Lite customer who needs the larger Space is paying $1,150 a month, or $13,800 a year.
Enterprise plans use Premium Spaces in three types: Standard for a single site, Enterprise for coordinating teams, brands or regions, and Templated for large numbers of similar microsites. How many Spaces you need, and of which type, is one of the biggest drivers of an Enterprise quote, so it is worth getting your content architecture right before you negotiate.
On paid plans you can go over your included limits and pay for the overage: $5 for each additional million API calls a month and $0.15 for each additional GB of asset bandwidth. Contentful waives the API overage on some Enterprise plans. For most sites these charges are small, but a busy site serving large images, or an app polling the API heavily, can add up, so model your expected traffic before you choose a plan.
Contentful’s newer products are only available on Enterprise plans and are priced separately:
If personalisation is part of the business case, include it in the first negotiation rather than adding it later. Monthly active profiles are the main variable, so estimate them from your actual traffic.
Contentful doesn’t publish Enterprise prices. Quotes are built from your use cases and the architecture they need. The factors that move the number most are:
Contentful is a headless platform, so it doesn’t include a website. The licence is only part of the total cost of ownership. Budget for:
A well-designed content model often does more to control long-term cost than the licence negotiation itself, because it determines how many Spaces, content types and records you will actually need.
Salesforce completed its acquisition of Contentful on 1 September 2026. As of October 2026, Contentful’s published plans and prices are unchanged, and it still sells as a standalone platform that works with any CRM or front end.
Over time, expect more bundling with Salesforce products such as Data 360 and Agentforce, and new packaging options at renewal. If you are approaching a renewal, or comparing Contentful with other platforms, ask directly how pricing and packaging will evolve, and whether there is any incentive for combining it with Salesforce licences you already hold. We’ve written about what the acquisition means for your roadmap in more depth.

Yes, there is a free plan for learning and small projects. It includes 10 users, two locales, 100,000 API calls and 50 GB of bandwidth a month, with hard caps rather than overage charges.
The Lite plan costs $300 a month. Adding a larger Lite Space costs a further $850 a month. Enterprise plans are custom-priced and are typically agreed annually.
No. Contentful charges by plan, not by seat. Each plan has a user limit: 10 on Free and 20 on Lite. Enterprise plans can scale to hundreds of users.
No. Organisations that outgrow Lite move to Enterprise, which is why it pays to plan your Space architecture and usage early.
No. Contentful Personalization, Studio and AI Actions are add-ons available only on Enterprise plans, and each is priced separately.
